5 ways the coronavirus could impact the future of home design

Home has never been more important than it is right now. The Coronavirus has suddenly transitioned us into a world where everyday activities, such as work and physical activity, are all happening at home. As we are confined now more than ever, our reliance on home has grown and the future of home design could be changed drastically. Here are 5 ways the Coronavirus pandemic could impact future home design plans:

Many Future Home Designs Will Have Designated Home Offices | 29133 Grayfox Street: 7 BD, 5 BA, ~5,352 SF

1. Adaptable Layouts – homes will need to accommodate a greater amount of functions such as areas for physical activity, reading, entertainment, etc.

2. Outdoor Space – being indoors more often has caused a heightened appreciation for the outdoors. New designs could include roof gardens, micro backyards, folding glass doors, etc.

3. Home Offices – make-shift dining table desks won’t fly as work stations anymore. Designated home offices may be in many future home designs.

4. Smart Kitchens – less dining out and less trips to the grocery store could cause a need for larger pantries to hold more food at a time. Smart kitchens may also become more desirable for hands-free living with voice controlled lights, faucets, appliances, etc.

5. Air Purification – being cautious about unfiltered air may cause a desire for air purification systems which take outside air, recondition it, and supply it as fresh air to a building.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all of us in ways that we never imagined. Not only will there be changes to home design, but to offices, restaurants, and travel as well. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing though. We are excited to see an evolution of homes with beautiful and spacious backyards, an increase in smart technology, and a priority for cleanliness in our everyday lives.
